I have the honour to transmit to Your Excellency herewith copies of two resolutions agreed to by the Legislative Council on Tuesday, the 7th day of August, 1917. I have, &C, W. To His Excellency the Right Honourable Arthur William de Brito Savile, Earl of Liverpool, Member of His Majesty's Most Honourable Privy Council, Knight Grand Cross- of the Most Distinguished Order of Saint Michael and Saint George, Member of the Royal Victorian Order, Knight of Grace of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Governor-General and Commander-in-Chief in and over His Majesty's Dominion of New Zealand and its Dependencies. May it please Your Excellency,— The following resolution was unanimously agreed to by the Legislative Council on Tuesday, the 7th day of August, 1917 :— _ That the Legislative Council of New Zealand in Parliament assembled records its warmest thanks to the officers, non-commissioned officers, and men of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force for the splendid services they have rendered to the Empire and to the Dominion since the outbreak of war; and, further, that this resolution be transmitted to His Excellency the Governor-General. Government Hotise, Wellington, 9th August, 1917. The Hon. the Acting-Speaker of the Legislative Council. The Governor-General acknowledges, with gratification, the receipt of a copy of the resolution passed by the Legislative Council on the occasion of the third anniversary of the declaration of war. It will afford His Excellency great pleasure to convey the terms of the resolution to His Most Gracious Majesty the King. The Governor-General desires also to express his appreciative acknowledgment of the resolution recording the thanks of Parliament for the services rendered to the Empire and to the Dominion of New Zealand alike by all ranks of the New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
