No. 126.—Petition of Mebeaina Eauangina and 151 Others. Petitionees pray that the rights of the Maoris on the Wanganui Eiver be not interfered with. I have the honour to report that the Committee is of opinion the Government should act on the recommendation of the Wanganui Eiver Trust Board, and depute the Hon. Native Minister to visit the district with a view to settling the dispute. 11th September, 1895.

No. 283.—Petition of Edwabd Douglas. Petitioner prays that legislation may be provided to remedy an alleged injustice done to his wife and family by the action of the Native Land Court. I have the honour to report that the Committee are of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government, with the recommendation that the Chief Judge of the Native Land Court be asked to suggest the necessary legislation required to give relief to the petitioner and others in a similar position. 11th September, 1895.

Petitionees pray that the law relating to the sale of intoxicating liquors may be amended, so that it will have the effect of promoting the habit of temperance in all Maori districts. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommend that this petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. . 11th September, 1895.

No. 302. —Petition of Haoea Taeeeanui and 123 Others. Petitionees pray that legislation may be passed to allow the Maoris the right to sell their land to whom they please. I have the honour to report that the Committee recommend that provision be made in the Native Bill now before the House to give effect to the prayer of the petitioners. 11th September, 1895.
