No. 254.—Petition of Te Korowhiti Tuataka (Mrs. Douglas). Petitioner complains of injustice done her in connection with the Waiharakeke and Okauia Block, and prays for compensation. I have the honour to report, — 1. That in the opinion of this Committee an injustice has been done to Te Korowhiti Tuataka (Mrs. Douglas), and that through the action of the Native Land Court. 2. That as the land to which she was entitled has been sold, the only way in which justice can be done to the petitioner is by the Government granting her land. 3. That the Government should ascertain through its officers the probable value of the land of which she has been deprived, with a view of determiaing the compensation necessary. 4th August, 1893. No. 697, 1892.—Petition of Tumai and Others. Petitioners pray that a title to a small block of land in the Taranaki District, known as Purangi, may be granted to them. I have the honour to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government for inquiry. Bth August, 1893. No. 375, 1892.—Petition of Eetieeti Tapihana. Petitioner prays that certain alleged promises by the Government relating to a road in the Pukaitara Block may be carried into effect. No. 485, 1892.—Petition of Eichabd Blake and others. Petitioners pray that they may have control of their own lands, instead of the same being left in the hands of the Public Trustee. I have the honour to report that the Committee is of opinion that this petition should be referred to the Government. Bth August, 1893.
