No. 1. The Earl of Cabnabvon to the Marquis of Nobmanby. Mt Lobd,— Downing Street, 6th May, 1876. In continuation of-aiy despatches* noted in the margin, I have the honor to transmit to you, for the information of your Government, a copy of a despatch from the British Charge d'Affaires at Munich, accompanied by such information as he has been able to obtain respecting the trade in beetroot sugar in Bavaria. Enclosure Mr. Hill to the Earl of Debby. Mt Lobd,— Munich, 13th April, 1876. On receipt of your Lordship's commercial circular of the 16th December last, Mr. Morier applied to the Bavarian Q-overnment for the information on the subject of beet-root sugar which wag then asked for. I have now the honor to enclose Monsieur D'Axenberger's reply, with enclosures, in translation, from which your Lordship will perceive that no special statistical works regarding the production of and duties on beet-root sugar are published in this country, those relating to the Zollverein, and published in Berlin, including also the Bavarian trade. Iw reply to the note of the 13th January, from the British Legation, the undersigned has the honor to forward to Mr. Clement Hill the accompanying remarks on the production of and duties on beet-root sugar in Bavaria, together with a tabular report on the subject; and avails himself of this opportunity to renew, &c.
