Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of nine members, to consider all matters relating to school-teachers, education, and public instruction generally, training of publicschool teachers, higher education, technical education, manual instruction, and such other matters affecting education as may be referred to it: the Committee to consist of Mr. Algie, Mr. Bodkin, Rev. Mr. Carr, Mr. Freer, Mr. Oram, Mr. Petrie, Mr. Rae, Mr. Wilson, and the Mover."—(Hon. Mr. McCombs.) Wednesday, the 18th Day of August, 1948 Ordered, " That the Trades Certification Bill be referred to the Education Committee."—(Hon. Mr. McCombs.) Wednesday, the 20th Day of October, 1948 Ordered, " That the Education Amendment Bill be referred to the Education Committee."— (Hon. Mr. McCombs.) Wednesday, the 27th Day of October, 1948 Ordered, " That the Education Committee have leave to sit during the present sitting of the House."—(Rev. Mr. Carr.) Friday, the 19 th Day of November, 1948 Ordered, " That the Education Amendment Bill be referred back to the Education Committee for further consideration."—(Hon. Mr. McCombs.)

REPORTS
No. 123/1947 —Petition of J. C. Hepburn and Others Praying for the provision of additional schools and boarding facilities for pupils in the Hamilton area. * I have the honour to report that the member who presented this petition having expressed, on behalf of the petitioners, a desire to withdraw the same, the Committee recommends that she be allowed to do so. 4th August, 1948.
Trades Certification Bill I have the honour to report that the Education Committee has carefully considered the Trades Certification Bill, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed with the amendments shown in the copy of the Bill hereto annexed. Ist September, 1948.
Education Amendment Bill I have the honour to report that the Education Committee has carefully considered the Education Amendment Bill, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed with the amendments shown in the copy of the Bill hereto annexed. 4th November, 1948.
Education Amendment Bill (second report) I have the honour to report that the Education Committee has again considered the Education Amendment Bill, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed with the further amendments shown in the copy of the Bill hereto annexed.
