REPORTS No. 34/1942. —Abdul Rahman Shah, of Waitotara, New Zealand Praying for additional compensation for the loss of an eye. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee recommends that this petition be referred to the Government for investigation. The Committee desires to express the opinion that the petitioner has been inadequately compensated for the injury sustained by him and that steps should be taken to ensure that he be dealt with justly. No. 3/1941—Petition of J. Hay, of Kaiwaka, Farmer Praying for additional compensation for an injury sustained by him. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has carefully considered this petition and recommends that it be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, subject to the petitioner submitting himself to the operation on the injured eye recommended in the medical report. 4th June, 1943.

No. 37/1942.—Petition of H. Eagle, of Remuera, Auckland, Waterside Worker Praying for redress in respect of an injury sustained by him in the course of his employment. I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has carefully considered this petition. It is, in effect, a petition for the rehearing of petitioner's claim for compensation for an injury sustained by him in the course of his employment. As the law stands the decision of a Workers' Compensation Court is final, and there is no appeal to any other Court and no provision for a rehearing. The Committee, therefore, has no recommendation to make in respect of this petition. The Committee, however, is of opinion that the statute law should be altered to provide for the granting of a rehearing in cases such as this, where new and effective evidence becomes available which was not available at the date of the original hearing. The Committee recommends that this report be referred to the Government. 4th June, 1943. D. W. Coleman, for Chairman.

Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has heard evidence on, and has carefully considered the Industrial Conciliation and Arbitration Amendment Bill, and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed with the amendments shown on the copy hereto attached. 4th August, 1943.

No. 52.—Petition of T. P. Fleming, of 39 Hewitts Road, Christchurch Praying for a compassionate allowance for injuries sustained while in the employ of the Public Works Department. I have the honour to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 18th August, 1943.

Workers' Compensation Amendment Bill I have the honour to report that the Labour Bills Committee has carefully considered the Workers' Compensation Amendment Bill and recommends that the Bill be allowed to proceed without amendment. 23rd August, 1943. C. H. Chapman, Chairman.
