ORDERS OF REFERENCE. Extracts from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Thursday, the 14th Day of July, 1938. Ordered, " That a Select Committee be appointed, consisting of ten members, to consider all petitions from A to L that may be referred to it; to classify and prepare abstracts of such petitions in such form and manner as shall appear to it best suited to convey to this House all requisite information respecting their contents, and to report the same from time to time to this House ; and to have power to report its opinions and observations thereon to this House : the Committee to consist of Mr. Cotterill, Mr. Endean, the Hon. Mr. Hamilton, Mr. Hultquist, Mr. Neilson, Mr. Roy, Mr. Schramm, Mr. Sexton, Mr. Thorn, and the Mover."—(Hon. Mr. Parky.) Friday, the 15th Day oir July, 1938. Ordered, " That all petitions not finally dealt with during the session of 1937-38 be again referred to the same Committees as they were referred to during the said session." —(Right Hon. Mr. Savage.) Tuesday, the 6th Day or September, 1938. Ordered, " That the Public Petitions A to L Committee have leave to sit during the present sitting of the House."— (M. REPORTS. No. 59. —Petition of Major-General Sir A. H. Eussell and 4,134 Others. Praying for the restoration of facilities for the broadcasting of lectures on Holy Scripture. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 11th August, 1938.

No. 179/1937-38.—Petition of E. M. Donaldson and 9,056 Others. Praying that provision be made for the broadcasting of lectures by the Auckland British Israel Association (Incorporated). I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 11th August, 1938.

No. 10.—Petition of E. C. Gaze. Praying for payment of children's allowance in terms of the Pensions Amendment Act, 1936, and that it be made retrospective. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 11th August, 1938.

No. 67/1937-38.—Petition of C. H. S. Jennings. Praying that he be granted compensation on account of alleged wrongful imprisonment, and that certain Court proceedings be quashed. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 11th August, 1938.

No. 49. —Petition of J. H. Edwards. Praying for reinstatement as a telegraphist in the Post and Telegraph Department, and for other relief. I am directed to report that in respect of the prayer of the petitioner that he be reinstated in the Post and Telegraph Department the Committee has no recommendaton to make. The Committee, however, is of the opinion that in consideration of the length of service of the petitioner suitable employment should be found for him by the Government at the earliest opportunity. 11th August, 1938.

No. 67.—Petition of Lucy C. Winders. Praying that she be granted an invalidity pension. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 25th August, 1938.

No. 68.—Petition of E. Donnelly. Praying that he be granted an invalidity pension. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 25th August, 1938.

No. 70.—Petition of Mona E. Mercek. Praying that she be granted an invalidity pension. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for most favourable consideration. 25th August, 1938.

No. 51. —Petition of T. J. Brennan. Praying for additional pension on account of partial blindness and in consideration of services rendered to the State. I am directed to report that, in view of the Social Security Bill at present before the House, the Committee has no recommendation to make. Ist September, 1938.

No. 30.—Petition of G. Ecroyd and 2 Others. Praying for compensation for loss sustained as a result of an accident to a school bus. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. Ist September, 1938.

I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for consideration. 14th September, 1938.

No. 85. —Petition of J. J. Carroll. Praying for compensation for expense allegedly incurred by the operation of the Fair Rents Act, 1936. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 14th September, 1938.

No. 79. —Petition of A. Burns. Praying that he be granted an increased retiring-allowance on account of injuries allegedly sustained while employed in the Railways Department. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 14th September, 1938.

No. 171/1937-38.—Petition of C. H. Dubi. Praying for compensation on account of alleged miscarriage of justice. I am directed to report that the Committee has no recommendation to make. 14th September, 1938.

No. 91. —Petition of Kathleen Neilson. Praying that she be granted an invalidity pension. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 15th September, 1938. No. 106.—Petition of E. Neale. Praying that the invalidity pension granted him be made retrospective to date of original application. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee the petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 15th September, 1938.

No. 6.—Petition of W. G. Kingsbuky. Praying that he be granted the old-age pension. I am directed to report that the member in charge of the petition having requested permission to withdraw it, the Committee recommends that he be allowed to do so. F. W. Schbamm, Chairman. . 16th September, 1938.

Special Repoet. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Public Petitions A to L Committee passed the following resolution : " That this Committee desires to place on record its high appreciation of the very capable and courteous manner in which the Chairman, Mr. F. W. Schramm, has presided over its deliberations during the session, and directs that this resolution shall be recorded in the minutes of the Committee and be reported to the House." 16th September, 1938. Special Report. I have the honour to report that at its final meeting the Public Petitions A to L Committee passed the following resolution : " That this Committee desires to place on record its appreciation of the capable and efficient service performed by the Clerk, Mr. R. L. Cross, in his work throughout the session, and it is the wish of the Committee that this resolution shall be recorded in the minutes and be reported to the House." 16th September, 1938.
