ORDER OF REFERENCE. Jixlract from the Journals of the House of Representatives. Wednesday, the 6th Day cm Novembisb, 1918. Ordered, "That a Select Committee be appointod, consisting of sixteen members, to whom shall stand referred, after the first reading, all Bills affecting or in any way relating to the lands of the Crown or educational or other public reserves; the Committee to have power to make such amendments therein as they think proper, and to report generally when necessary upon the principles and provisions of the Bill; the Committee to have power to call for persons, papers, and records; three to be a quorum : the Committee to consist of Mr. Anderson, Mr. Anstey, the Hon. Mr. Buddo, Captain Coates, Mr, Forbes, Mr. Jennings, the Right Hon. Mr. Mansey, Mr, E, Nowman, Mr. Nosworthy, the Hon. Mr. R. H. Rhodes, Mr. T. W. Rhodes, Mr. R. W. Smith, Mr. S. 0. The Lands Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed as amended by the Local Bills Committee. sth December, 1918. No. 5. —Petition of Dunedin Chamber of Commerce and Otago Expansion League. Prating that a Commission be appointed to inquire into the tenure of land in the pastoral districts of Otago. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be : referred to the Government, for favourable consideration. 6th December, 1918. No. LO3. —Petition of Matthkw Henry, of Waerenga, Southland. Praying for compensation for loss incurred through alleged wrongful valuation of property in the Ballachraggan Settlement. 1 am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 6th December, 1918, • No. 54.—Petition of the Hokianga County Council. Praying for legislation so that members of the Native race may be rated. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends that the petition be referred to the Government for favourable consideration, and desires to draw attention to the report of the Minister of Internal Affairs in the annual departmental report for the year ended 31st March, 1918 (11.-22). The Committee further recommends that the suggestions contained in the report referred to with regard to collection of rates from the Native race be acted upon, and legislation be introduced as soon as possible to give effect to such suggestions. 6th December, 1918. Wo. 17, Session I.—Petition of the Northern Wairoa Agricultural and Pastoral Association and nine similar Petitions (as per Schedule attached). Praying that a new land district be formed, to be called the Northland Land District, and comprising the whole of the North Auckland Peninsula. I am directed to report that the Committee recommends the petition to the favourable consideration of the Government, and that the matter be proceeded with with all possible expedition. 6th December, 1918. The Lands Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed. 9th December, 1918. Auckland Harbour Board, Devonpout Borough Council, and Devonpout Domain Board Empowering Bill. The Lands Committee, to which was referred the above-mentioned Bill, has the honour to report that it has carefully considered the same, and recommends that it be allowed to proceed as amended by the Local Bills Committee. 9th December, 1918. No. 2. —Petition of David Waters. Praying for a refund of the value of 4 acres of land in the Southland Lund Distriot (Section 4, Block 16, Oteramika Hundred), on the ground of inaccuracy in certificate of title issued by Land 'transfer Office, Invercargill. I am directed to report that in the opinion of the Committee this petition should be referred to the Government for favourable consideration. 9th December, 1918. JNo. 41. —Petition of the Whangarei Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and five similar Petitions (as per Schedule attached). Praying that the Government authorize and, when circumstances permit, undertake the drainage of the Hikurangi Swamp.
