Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the sth September, 1913. Ordered, ■'That there be laid before this House a return showing—(l) The amount of the national debt debited to the cost of the post and telegraph and telephone services up to 31st March. 1913 : (:') (he amount "f interest over and above working-expenses earned by these services for the year ended the 31st March, 1913; and (3) the amount of the deficit (if any).'' (Dr. A. K. Nkwman.) Betukn showing (1) the Amount of Capital invested to 31st March, 1913; (2) the Amount ok Interest over and above Working - expenses earned for the Year ended the 31st March, 1913; and (3) the Amount of the Deficit. 1. Capital invested to the 31st March, 1913, — £ In land and buildings ... ... ... ... 1,030,822 In telegraph and telephone lines ... ... ... ... 2,277,125 ' Total ... ... ... ... ... ... £3,307,947 2. Amount of interest over aud above working-expenses for year to 31st March, 1913 : £98,554. or 2-98 per cent, on £3,307,947. 3. At 3£ per cent, the interest on capital invested is £115,778. The deficit at this rate is therefore £17,224.
