TANGITU IMPROVED-FARM SETTLEMENT (PARTICULARS RELATING TO THE).

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 10th October, 1912. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing—(l) The total area contained in the Tangitu Improved-farm Settlement, near Tβ Kuiti ; (2) the total number of selectors in the blook ; (3) the length of reading and road-formation constructed in the block; (4) the proportion of the roedwork carried out by settlers under the District Engineer ; (5) the amount of money advanced to settlers by the Government for building, bashfelling, grass-seed, and purchase of stock ; (6) the amount of loading on the land for the above purposes, also the amount expended ; (7) the distance of the settlement from the nearest railway-station."—(Mr. Mac Donald.)

Tangitu Improved-farm Settlement, Taranaki Land District. 1. Area contained in Tangitu Improved-farm Settlement: 13,707 acres 1 rood 12 perches. 2. Number of settlers in block : 84. 3. Length of roading and road-formation constructed in the block : 6 miles 48 chains of drayroads and 32 miles 3 chains of bridle-roads. 4. The proportion of roadwork carried out by settlers under the District Road Engineer: Since Ist April, 1911, the settlers have done all the work. Prior to that date they received £5,085 worth of work out of an expenditure of £6,387. 5. The amount of money advanced to settlers by the Government for building, bushfelling, grass-seed, and purchase of stock : Building, £2,095 2s. 6d.; bushfelling, £5,163 2s. 6d. ; grassseed, £2,435 7s. 9d.; purchase of stock, £2,151 195.: total, £11,845 11s. 9d. 6. The amount of loading on the land in respect of items mentioned in (5): £9,693 12s. 9d. (the whole of this sum has been expended). 7. Distance of settlement from the nearest railway-station: Eight miles and a half from Waimiha. Note. —In regard to item (6), no loading has been placed upon the land on account of the amount advanced for the purchase of stock, as might be inferred from the question.
