1905. NEW ZEALAND.

LAND FOR SETTLEMENTS ACTS (PARTICULARS RELATIVE TO ESTATES ACQUIRED UNDER COMPULSORY CLAUSES OF).

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated 11th July, 1905. Ordered, " That there be laid before this House a return showing separately (1) the number of estates acquired by the Government under the compulsory clauses of the Land for Settlements Acts; (2) the amount paid for each estate ; (3) the amount formerly paid by each estnte by way of land-tax ; (4) the amount paid for surveying, loading, and other expenses connected with each estate ; (5) the number of tenants at present residing on each estate; and (6) the amount of rent that has been paid by the tenants of each estate."—(Mr. Lang.)

Land for Settlements. Retubn showing separately (1) the Number of Estates acquired by the Government under the Land for Settlements Acts ; (2) the Amount paid for each Estate ; (3) the Amount formerly paid by each Estate by way of Land-tax ; (4) the Amount paid for Surveying, Roading, and other Expenses connected with each Estate ; (5) the Number of Tenants at present residing on each Estate ; and (6) the Amount of Rent that has been paid by the Tenants of each Estate.

Tax Value at Time of Acquisition is also given : —

Note.—Argyll : Cost of survey, number of tenants, tax paid, and total receipts to 31st March include Te Reinga also. Flaxbourne : Beside the price paid, the owners retained land worth, say, £60,000. Tenants since 31st March, 1905 : Lindsay, 75 ; PUxbourne, 83. Rent to date : Lindsay, £2,554 3s. lOd. ; Plaxbourne, £4,980 7s.
