1891. NEW ZEALAND.

EMPLOYÉS IN RAILWAY SERVICE. (RETURN SHOWING FINES INFLICTED, ETC.)

Return to an Order of the House of Representatives dated the 25th June, 1890. Ordered, " That a return be laid before this House giving the following particulars in respect of employes in the railway service during the period of twelve months ended the 31st March, 1890 : (1) The amount of fines and stoppages inflicted ; (2) the use to which such amount was applied ; (3) the number of employes (over eighteen years of age) discharged or who have left, specifying (a) the weekly rate of wages payable to them, and (6) the number respectively of married men and unmarried men who have been so discharged or who have left; (4) the number of employes (under eighteen years of age) taken on, and (a) the weekly rate of wages payable to them." —(Mr. G. Eetuen of Paeticulaes in eespect of Employes in the Eailway Seevice. No. 1. Amount of fines and stoppages inflicted during twelve months ended the 31st March, 1890 : £58 Is. 6d. No. 2. The use to which such amount was applied : Paid into an account in the Public Trust Fund, called "The Eailway Servant Fund:" vide section 145, subsection (6), "Public Works Act, 1882." No. 3. Number of employes (over eighteen years of age) discharged or who have left, specifying (a) the weekly rate of wages payable to them, and (b) the number respectively of married and unmarried men who have been so discharged or who have left: (See below.) No. 4. Number of employes (under eighteen years of age) taken on, and the weekly rate of wages payable to them : (See below.)
