No. 4.—Petition of Simon Fbaseb. The petitioner claims to be the discoverer of the West Taieri Goldneld : his claim has been several times before the House. I have the honour to report that this petition has been previously reported upon, and that your Committee now find no reason for making any further recommendation on the subject. 3rd June, 1887.

The Mining Act Amendment Bill. The Goldfields and Mines Committee, to whom the Mining Act Amendment Bill was referred, have the honour to report that they have considered the Bill, and have passed the same with the amendments and alterations shown in the copy of the Bill attached. The Committee, while approving of the rest of the Bill, have only passed those clauses which they consider to be absolutely necessary at present, and they recommend that the Bill, as amended, be allowed to proceed.
