[translation.] To the Head of tile House of Assembly of New Zealand, together with all the Men who HAVE BEEN SELECTED TO BE PeKSONS TO SIT IN THAT ASSEMBLY.

26th June, 1865. This is a petition from us, the persons whose names are signed to this document, who join our thought to that of the Pakehas of Turanga (Poverty Bay), viz., that you consent to let this portion of the country extending from Wharekahika to Te Mahia be included in the Government of the Province of Hawke's Bay. The reasons why we desire to be included in the Grovernment of the boundaries of (the Province of) Hawke's Bay are these : —We and the Maori people of Hawke's Bay are one tribe. We all belong to (came in) one canoe, " Takitimu." Another reason is, that it is so far to sail to Auckland to complete our arrangements. Our very great desire, is, to be included in the Government (Province) of Hawke's Bay. This desire has not only now arisen, but has long since been expressed.
