Wharekahika, 18th July, 1865. This is a petition from us, the persons whose names are affixed to this document, to the Members of the Council of the Great Assembly of New Zealand, convened at Wellington. This is our petition and our desire, that this portion of our territory at Wharekahika should be included within the boundaries of the government of Ahuriri. The reason for our desiring to be included within that government is, that we are one united people with Ngatikahununu; another reason is the nearness of Ahuriri to us, and the distance that separates us from Auckland. Wherefore we desire to express in order that you may know our proposal, and what we wish. If these plans are assented to by you, we will pray that you may ever live. The Members of Council of the Great Council Chamber of the Government of New Zealand.
[Here follow seven signatures ; " from all the Eunanga of the Maori Government of Wharekahika."]
