LIQUOR TO MAORIS
METHODIST RESOLUTIONS (Special to Times) TE AROHA, Thursday Allegations of “sly grog” transactions in the King Country, on a scale calculated to cause concern for the moral welfare, particularly, of the Maori people in that no-license area, were made at the South Auckland District Methodist Synod, in conference this week at Te Aroha. Synod unanimously resolved to urge the Government to fulfil its moral obligation to the native population in the area by legislation and administration to secure, inter alia, the tightening up of provisions in matters such as the importation, distribution, and consumption of liquor, the use made of the railways for the purpose, the regulation of clubs, the manufacture and alcoholic content of home brew, and the increase of police supervision.
