Commissioner J. Evan Smith, territorial leader of the Salvation Army in New Zealand, left Hamilton for Putaruru this morning. Captain G. L. Buckley, N.Z.T.S., bandmaster of the Papakura Camp Band, has been given 14 days’ leave prior to retirement. This action has been taken at Captain Buckley’s own request following a serious illness. Sir Arthur Gimble, Governor of the Seychelles, has been appointed Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Windward Islands in succession to Sir Henry Popham, who will retire in May, says the British official wireless. Messrs V. C. Rapson (Wellington), H. E. Johnson, V. E. Gazell (Hawera) and R. C. Riches (Auckland) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Messrs F. W. Doidge, M.P. (Tauranga), J. M. Speed, E. G. Chandler, W. K. Hart, J. A. Gentles (Auckland), J. N. McKenzie (Christchurch), W. G. Taylor and J. R. Fairley (Wellington) are at the Commercial Hotel.
