NAVAL MAN PROMOTED

RANK OF SUB-LIEUTENANT Cabled advice has been received by Mrs J. C. Sandford, of Te Awamutu, that her husband, Ordinary Seaman Jack C. Sandford, has been promoted to the rank of sub-lieuten-ant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve. Sub-Lieutenant Sandford left for Britain in September, and served in H.M.S. Renown after undergoing a course of instruction in H.M.S. Ganges. Educated at the Paekakariki School and the Wellington Technical College, Sub-Lieutenant Sandford was working as an engineering draughtsman in the Railway Department when he was accepted for training with the Navy- His parents, Mr and Mrs J. H. Sandford, live at Paekakariki.
