BUILDING FUND

CLAUDELANDS SHOWGROUNDS TROTTING CLUB PROPOSAL The president of the Waikato Trotting Club, Mr H. Windsor, waited on the executive of the Waikato Agricultural and Pastoral Association today with a suggestion that the Trotting Club’s annual contribution of 15 per cent be set aside by the association as the nucleus of a fund for erecting buildings at Claudelands that would be used by both organisations. He pointed out that though the time was not opportune for building owing to the war, it would be necessary at some future date to undertake a rebuilding programme. Mr Windsor also asked that the clause in the agreement providing for payment of £2O by the club for grazing rights on the course proper be rescinded now that the association grazed its own stock. After discussion it was decided to reply to the club that the first request would be considered at a later date, and that the agreement regarding grazing rights could not be disturbed, as each clause had been carefully considered by both parties. New Membership The president, Mr W. R. J. Franklin, commenting on the large number of new members, said Mr F. C. House was largely responsible, and the association was greatly indebted to him. Fifty-one new members were elected. The president and vice-presidents were appointed a protest committee. The New Zealand Milking Shorthorn Association asked that permanent show-ring for Milking Shorthorn classes be erected at the showground. It was suggested that the site be alongside the selling pavilion, and that the show association provide the material and the breed association the labour. The executive realised that some re-arrangement of the judging facilities generally was desirable. Representatives of the various breed societies will be invited to confer with the grounds committee.

Mr Franklin was in the chair and other members present were Messrs F. S. Veale, C. P. Harington, J. McNicol, W. T. Luxton, H. J. Finlayson, A. Parkin, R. Hinton, C. Bailey, P. H. Clarkin, R. A. Hinton, and the Secretary, Mr W. L. Ranstead.
