PARCELS FOR PRISONERS

ST PAUL’S LADIES’ GUILD The St Paul’s Ladies’' Guild held its monthly meeting recently, when the church parlour was decorated with poppies and ranunculi. Although the day was showery the attendance, as usual, was good. In the absence of the president, Mrs Bradley, Mrs E. Miller, a vicepresident, occupied the chair and extended members and visitors a very cordial welcome. Two violin solos were given by Miss M. Wilson, with pianoforte accompaniments by Mrs Wilson. Hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Shepherd, Hutt, Litchwark and Cague. Following afternoon tea, business relating to the despatching of parcels to prisoners of war was dealt with. As regulations do not permit the sending of separate parcels it was de- • cided to ask the next of kin to accept gifts from the guild for enclosure in their personal parcels. Two letters in acknowledgment of parcels received from the guild were read from soldiers overseas, one being from Chaplain H. T. Peat, a former minister of St Paul’s church. The last meeting of the year will take the form of a social to be held on the evening of December 11, and arrangements are being made for the holding of stalls and the serving of supper. Hospital visitors for the next three months were appointed, and Mrs Tinsley closed the meeting with prayer.
