BURGLARS ACTIVE
MATAMATA SHOPS ENTERED • J_ GOODS AND MONEY TAKEN (Special to Times) MATAMATA, Wednesday Ten business premises in Arawa Street and Broadway, Matamata, received the attention of unlawful intruders last night, though in only four places was anything removed. These were the hardware shop of the Farmers’ Trading Company, whose tools and other articles of an estimated cost of £5 were taken; the bakery premises of Mr J. G. Spence where change totalling 27s was stolen and the tobacconist shop of Mr Bert Fowke, in Broadway, where a cashbox, cigarettes, cigars and matches to the value of £2O were removed. The fourth place visited was the premises of the Farmers’ Co-operative Auctioneering Company in Firth Street, where the intruders apparently spent some time. in trying on suits and shoes at leisure until a fit was obtained. The intruders were unsuccessful in their attempts to enter the other six shops. At the time of the burglaries it was raining heavily which probably explains why their activities passed unobserved. Inquiries are being made by Constable W. A. Miller, of Matamata.
