CONDUCT AT DANCES
LIQUOR NEAR HALLS (Special to Times) TE AWAMUTU, Monday. At today’s sitting; or Hie Te Awamutu Magistrate’s Court, Desmond Craig- and Albert Brian Papesch wore charged with having liquor in their possession and disorderly conduct at a dance at lhe Kakepuku Hall. Papesch was fined £5 on the first charge and was convicted on the second. An application for suppression or mime was refused. 'Craig was fined £5 Tor having liquor and £'2 for disorderly conduct. Charges against two ottirr young men, one a soldier on leave and the other a civilian rriend, Tor breaches or the dance hall legislation arose out of a visit By the police to Mangapiko. There was no suggestion or drunkenness. The soldier was convicted without penalty, and the civilian, whose offence was technical, was fined £ t and costs. Suppression or tlie names was allowed. Possession of House Robert Knox proceeded against Harold Jones, or Kihikthi, ror an order Tor possession of a house and small area or ground. -Counsel Tor Knox said that the matter had Been before the Court last year and opportunity given the tenant to pay rent to date. This had been done but no further rent had been paid and £37 9s was now owing, including costs. In addition to the failure to pay rent, there had been a failure to keep the property in order. The magistrate, iMr W. H. Freeman, made an order for possession on or before March 31 and gave judgment for £3 5 ss, being rent due and owing, with costs. , TE AWAMUTU CRICKET At Albert Park, Te Awamutu, on Saturday, the Te Awamutu cricket eleven defeated High School by 83 runs to 5i2. Conditions were ideal But the bowlers held the upper hand. Gitberd 12), Laskey (12). Cooinbes (14), Falrbrother (11) and Peterson (10) were the doublefigure scorers for To Awamutu. S-cßools most successful bowlers were Wyllic (two for 6), Rarnsbottom (three for 12) and Lawrie (three lor 3 2). After the dismissal of Finn, Raimsbottom and Lawrie made a good stand, putting on 20 and 21 respectively. The rest failed badly, putting on only nine runs. Four did not score. Coombes took five for 25 and Gilberd three for '27. ROTO-O-RANGI HOME GJUARD There was a good muster or the Roto-o-rangi Home Guard on Saturday morning when a parade was held in a paddock lent Bv Mr J. W. Peake. Some useful work was done with opportunities for N.C.O.’s to drill their sections. The ground i- to have four floodlights and this will give the men the opportunity of evening parades. •Lieut.-Colonel J. G. Wynyard's appeal for financial support has already met with a splendid reception, the sum of nearly £•5 0 having come in.
