Y.M.C.A. COLLAPSES UNIVERSITY IN LEAD AGAIN (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Sunday One of the greatest surprises of the season was caused in the semifinals of the Auckland Cricket Association championships yesterday afternoon, when the batsmen of Y.M.C.A., the leading team, slumped badly against the Eden attack. At one stage, Y.M.C.A. had lost nine wickets for 49. Bright and forceful batting by W. L. Elliott, former Auckland representative, in association with Swift for the last wicket, took the score to 110, Elliott’s contribution being 72. As Eden had made 279 on the first day, Y.M.C.A. had to follow on. Another surprise was staged at North Shore, where the home team with eight wickets down for 100 and 99 runs behind Parnell on the first innings, declared, and on a tricky wicket got Parnell out for 49. It then had to get 149 in 90 minutes for the outright win against a first-innings loss. By defeating Ponsonby-Balmoral by an innings, University took the lead in the championship. H. W. Cooper carried his score from 95 to 122. In the other match at Eden Park, Grafton had to follow on against Middlemore. Both Ponsonby and Grafton batted two men short. At Victoria Park, a close and exciting finish ensued in the game between Papakura Camp and Training College. Details:— Eden: First innings, 279 v. Y.M.C.A.: First innings 110; second innings 84 for four wickets. Papakura Camp: First innings 116; second innings 177 v. Training College: First innings 126; second innings 168 for nine wickets. A win by one wicket. Parnell: First innings 199; second innings 49 v. North Shore: First filings 100; second innings 102 for nine wickets. Middlemore: First innings, 371 for nine wickets, declared v.
