PROLIFIC YIELD

114 BUSHELS OF WHEAT ON ONE ACRE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) •INVERCARGILL, Sunday What may be officially recognised as a world record yield of wheat has been grown on four acres of river flat near Winton, on the property of Mr T. Hamilton. The small paddock yielded 114 bushels to the acre. If the Department of Agriculture certifies to this the crop will supplant as a world record that distinction already held by another Southland larmer, Mr James Grant, of Bayswater, whose yield a few years ago was 112 bushels. Mr Hamilton’s crop of wheat was threshed from the stook. He has for some years been one of the principal wheatgrowers of Southland and averages from 50 to 80 acres annually.
