PAEROA RACING HOGARTH SPRINGS SURPRISE HACK CUP TO VENTURE (By Tel.—Spec, rrom “Martian”) PAEROA, Monday After continuous heavy rain this morning. the weather cleared for the opening race of the Ohlnemurl Jockey Club* Autumn meeting, concluding day, at Paeroa to-day. The track was heavy and the attendance was considerably affected by the weather. The weather continued showery throughout the artemoon. Winner trained by owner, paeroa. Hogarth upset popular calculations in the opening event when he got up in the last stride to snatch the race by a note rruni Route Marcli and Bright Lady. Bright Lady and Boute March were lighting it out half-way down the running and the winner put up a good performance in geiung up as he did. A double ligure dividend on the win machine was returned by the winner. Bright Lady Jumped out smartly on the rail* ami he showed the way along the back to Balblair, Boute March. Hogarth. Tlnketoon and Autoscore, with Josette and Vaalsniia at the head of the others. Bright Lady was Joined by Boute March racing to the turn and tins pair were out fully six lengths Trojn Tlnketoon, Hogarth, Balblair, Josette, Vaalsmla and Autostore. Route March headed Bright Lady at the distance and when It appeared that he would carry the day Hogarth got up to shade him by a note, with Bright Lady only a head away. P&rckura gave a line performance considering ills limited experience when he hit tin* front at the first rence and carried on to register an effortlecs success from the favourite, lnnes Lad, who should he benefited by today's outing. Jl-aekuhM-lMnidt made the early running but Parrtkura had run past him at the fl.rst fence from Surmise, Mines Lad and Te Monoplane. Surmise fell *t the fence entering the straight and racing past the stands Purekura was followed by lnnes Lad, llackcns-chfiildt, Te Monoplane, Captain bell, .Mendelssohn and Mia Acrea. Parekura was clear of Hines Lad along the back and he was eight lengths clear entering the home straight. .Nothing had a chance with the winner and he went on to beat lnnes Lad by eight lengths with Hackenscimildt another three length* away third. Venture, who was third on opening day improved on that performance* when art«r leading at the turn he held on In a gpectaeular finish to score by the narrowest of margins from JHinto and Mysito. The pronounced favourite, Radiant Vaals, was practically in line fourth. Heroic Star gave bis best performance Tor some time when, arter being handily placed over the latter part he prevailed in a light llnish with Golden survey, who, suiied by the heavy conditions, made a bold attempt to win in the Ja-t furlong. Stylishinan had every chance but laded In the closing stages, as a too did Laughing styllehman and Veyana were slow to move and Shamiln was the early leader from Laughing Fox, Acquest, HlneiU, Lady Vixen and British Mint. Golden survey went to the front a 111 tie further on and she was foHowed by Veyana, Slylishinan and Heroic Mar. In an exciting finish Heroic star prevailed by a bead over Golden survey, with Veyana hair a length further back In third place and High spy fourth. .Next came Laughing Fox, Sharimn and Hineiti.
