NO MORE BACON
EXPORTS TO BRITAIN CHOPPERS ALSO EXCLUDED PORKERS TO BE ACCEPTED NO CAUSE FOR UNEASINESS Apparently prompted by developments arising from the passing of the Lease and Lend Bill a certain change in Britain’s policy has necessitated, for an indefinite period, the total suspension of New Zealand’s exports of baconer and chopper Pi&s. Britain is, however continuing to accept the Dominion’s porker pigs, the weight range of which has been extended to include pigs up to 1201 b. In the meantime, the Government has stated that for the present season it will, together with other primary produce, purchase all pigs killed. This information was obtained in Waikato meat circles this morning when it was further stated it had been apparent from the abnormal pig killings over the last week that a marked degree of uneasiness was prevalent regarding the future prospects of this class of stock. This was causing congestion at the works and general dislocation of buying and collecting services. Buying schedules had been recentlv adjusted to meet the present altered outlook. There should be no justification for the uneasiness which exists, stated one authority. All concerned would therefore be well advised to follow their normal method i'n the disposal of their pigs since any other course could only aggravate the situation and prolong the period of adjustment to the disadvantage of all concerned.
