FEAR OF STARVATION
CONDITIONS IN EIRE MR DE VALERA’S STATEMENT BRITISH PLANE CRASHES (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received March 15, 11.40 a.m.) DUBLIN, March 14 Mr De Valera, in the Dail Eireann said: “The greatest calamity we have to fear is that owing to an insufficiency of food people will die of starvation, but if we take care now that will not happen, even if the war is long.
‘We may be forced to consider the State’s right to direct the use of private property. There will be considerable unemployment.’’ It is officially announced that a British plane crashed at Belcotton, County Clouth, yesterday. The sole member of the crew sustained an injury to his leg and was admitted to hospital. An unidentified plane flew over Dublin Bay at noon. The ground defences went into action.
