j A more strict observance of the safety regulations is now being en- ! forced in West Coast mines and this | has resulted in a substantial decline ! in output in several cases. The chief j inspector of mines, Mr G. Duggan, I is visiting the West Coast, and shoti firing co-operative mines have been I compelled to adopt additional safej guards. It is understood also that 1 the output of the State mines, par- | ticularly Strongman, has fallen considerably as a result of the new requirements in the interests of greater • safety.
