CHILDREN AT SCHOOL

EARLY LEAVING OPPOSED (Special to Times) ROTORUA, Friday “ It still seems to be considered a good idea by some parents that a child should pass through standard VI at the age of 12 years—it is even considered better if the pass is made at 11 years, and marvellous if the child passes at 10 years,” stated Mr S. Mills, of Auckland, inspector of schools, when addressing a meeting of the Home and School Associations of the Rotorua Primary School. “ Some parents think that this is something wonderful, but I do not agree with that opinion. If a child passes by the time it is 13 years of age I think that is quite satisfactory. I do not think a child should be thrown out on a cold, hard world at a very early age,” he said, in urging that children should not be pushed on unduly.
