TEMPORARILY UNFIT

REMEDIAL TREATMENT COMPULSION CONSIDERED (Special to Times.) WELLINGTON, Thursday Arrangements have been made by the military authorities to provide remedial treatment for men who, after being called in ballots, have been classed as la, that is, fit except for some minor trouble requiring treatment or a slight operation. Up to the present there has been no obligation on these men to have their remedial treatment carried out in order to make them fit grade 1 men, but the question of insisting upon this treatment has lately been given consideration by the authorities. The fhedical grading of all men called up has been reviewed and arrangements have been made to make available such medical facilities as are necessary. For the time bei'ng remedial treatment is being confined to men whose minor defects will require at the outside four weeks’ hospital attention. In some instances the medical officers consider that grade la men can be made 100 per cent fit by a period of graduated training. The territorial ranks have been opened for the inclusion of grade la and grade 2 men in order to release grade 1 men from the territorials for drafting to overseas units as they are called in the overseas ballot.
