FINAL DAY

CRICKET COMPETITION PLAY IN HAMILTON As the result of tomorrow’* play in the Hamilton cricket competition appears to be almost a foregone conclusion less interest than is usual for the end of the season will attach to the final day’s play. On No. 1 wicket, Old Boys, with one wicket down for 40 runs in response to Claudelands’ first-innings total of 155, appears to have prospects of a threepoint win only. The team may yet have to fight hard to get the necessary runs to overtake Claudelands. A large score by Pat Bright last Saturday placed East in a practically unbeatable position against Hamilton when East batted all the afternoon to reach 277 for the loss of six wickets. Cassidy, in all probablity, will declare the innings closed tomorrow which will leave Hamilton the whole afternoon to face East's attack. It will be interesting to see if Hamilton can be dismissed twice in the one day. The Draw Senior A.—Old Boys v. Claudelands, No. 1 wicket, Seddon Park; Hamilton East v. Hamilton, No. 2 wicket. Senior B.—Hamilton v. Cambridge, at Cambridge, Hamilton High School v. Hakanoa, at High School; Technical v. Karapiro, at Technical; Hamilton East v. Whitiora, No. 3 wicket, Seddon Park. BOWLING TARANAKI TOURISTS WAIKATO VISIT NEXT WEEK A party of 36 bowlers and eight women from Taranaki is now enjoying a visit to Auckland and neighbourhood, the men playing a senes of matches with city and suburban clubs. The visitors are to play a series of matches in the Waikato during the coming week, under the auspices of the South Auckland Bowling Centre. The tour is being made in continuation of the series of exchange visits made annually. Twelve months ago a large party of bowlers from Waikato clubs toured Taranaki. Leaving Auckland tomorrow morning, the visitors are due to reach. Thames at about 11 o’clock. They will play on the Thames green in the afternoon. Sunday will be devoted to a sirfht-seeing trip, probably round the coast, and Te Aroha will be reached in the evening. On Monday morning they will have nine rinks engaged on the Tourist Domain green meeting aix rinks from Te Aroha, and one each from Waihi, Hikutaia and Walton. In the afternoon opponents for Taranaki will be five rinks from Te Aroha and two each from Matamata and Morrinsville. Hamilton Programme Tuesday’s programme includes play on the Hamilton Club’s green meeting seven Hamilton and two Frankton Railway rinks. In the afternoon play will be at Cambridge, the home club providing six rinks. Leamington two and Matangi one. Play will be on the Whitiora green next day in the morning, when Whitiora Club will provide five rinks, Ngaruawahia and Frankton Junction two rinks each. In the afternoon the tourists go to Te Awamutu, when the home club will provide five rinks, and Otorohanga and Ohaupo two rinks each. Claudelands Club has the honour of entertaining the visitors on Thursday morning, providing live rinks, while Hamilton East will provide two rinks, and Raglan and Huntly one each. There is to be a reunion at 2.15 in the afternoon, at the Hamilton Club’s greens, between the Taranaki visitors and those Waikato players who visited Taranaki. ROUND THE GREENS Most of the interest tomorrow will centre in the full-rink tournaments being conducted at Hamilton East, Te Awamutu, Huntly and Matamata. All four clubs are hopeful of a good response to their invitations. The South Auckland Public Services bowling tournament is to be held on Saturday, March 22, the Hamilton Club having made its greens available for the purpose, and a week later the Hamilton Club will held a full-rink tournament. i
