No. 2 APPEAL BOARD SITTING AT NGARUAWAHIA The No. 2 Armed Forces Appeal Board heard several applications at Ngaruawahia yesterday, including three men of military age who had been born in Ireland, and who arrived in New Zealand in 1935. They were William John Knox, Robert Knox and Richard Knox, and none of the three had been drawn in an overseas ballot. They had conscientious objections to serving. The board reserved its decision. Another appellant on the grounds of conscientious objections was James Francis Hannah, and in his case decision was also reserved. Three employees of Wilton Collieries Limited, had their cases adjourned siqe die, on the grounds of undue hardship and public interest, and a similar decision was made in respect of John Francis Chillingworth, who appealed on the grounds of public interest and undue hardship. The Huntly Sitting A sitting of the Board was also held at Huntly yesterday and most of the cases dealt with concerned men not drawn in the overseas ballot. Alexander On* Rankin, a conscientious objector, said he had served with the Royal Air Force in the- last war. but now was a minister of gospel among the Brethren. His appeal for exemption was allowed. Decision was reserved in the case of Robert A. Walker, a conscientious objector, who stated that he was now associated with the World Peace Movement. Robert Henry Nuttall, a conscientious objector, was another case where decision was reserved. After hearing evidence in the appeal of lan Hamilton Young Lammas, and his father, James A. Y. Lammas, undue hardship being alleged, the Board decided to adjourn the case until the first sitting in May, but expressed the view that one son should render military service. On pleas of public interest and undue hardship, Thomas Malcolm Fretwell (Waerenga), David Ambrose Howell (Taupiri) and Henry Ceslas Rowe (Waiterimu), were granted sine die adjournments.
