FUNCTIONS FOR SOLDIERS Two functions in honour of soldiers were held in Raglan recently. The first took the form of a social afternoon, when Gunner Herbert Fuller was the guest-of-honour. Items were given by Mrs R. Stewart and Mr F. N. Hardey. The Rev. B. Oxenbridge and Mr F. N. Hardey, president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, expressed best wishes for a speedy return. Mr W. R. Moore, chairman of the Patriotic Committee, paid tribute to the sterling character of Gunner Fuller when endorsing the former speakers’ remarks, and on behalf of the Patriotic Committee presented him with a gift. Mrs Fuller, the guest’s mother, was presented with a posy by Mrs W. R. Moore. The second function was a social and dance held in the Dixieland Cabaret, when Sapper Colin Cornes was the guest-of-honour. Dancing was enjoyed and a vocal solo was rendered by Master K. Ayo. The Rev. B. Oxenbridge and Mr W. R. Moore conveyed good wishes, and Sapper Cornes was presented with I a gift. A posy was presented to his mother by Miss Shirley Marcroft. Refreshments were -served at both functions by women members of the Patriotic Committee and the Red Cross Society. LADY GALWAY GUILD A meeting of the Lady Galway Guild was held recently, when contents of parcels received in answer to appeal for blankets and clothing were sorted and packed for forwarding. Several quilts made by members from scraps of material were completed. Armbands were issued to members, and they were requested to wear them when working on Guild business. Mrs W. R. Moore presided at the meeting.
