RAGWORT CONTROL

WAIKATO COUNTY WORK COMPULSORY CLEARING Reporting to the Waipa County Council today. Mr G. G. Winter, overseer, said that the clearing of ragwort on sections by the twf) gangs of unemployed workers was completed about the middle of last month and, on the whole, satisfactory results were achieved. More than one visit had to be made to some areas, necessitated by the unsatisfactory weather conditions at the time of the first treatment. In Matahura district action was taken to compulsorily clear the ragwort, after several warnings and considerable latitude had been given. In two other cases elsewhere prosecutions for failure to clear the weed had_been instituted.
