FINAL MATCHES

HAMILTON CRICKET EAST IN GOOD POSITION The final matches in the Hamilton senior A cricket competition for the 1940-1 season will begin at Seddon Park tomorrow. Hamilton East will meet Hamilton on No. 2 wicket and on No. 1 ground. Old Boys and Claudelands will be matched. With three points’ lead East’s supremacy does not seem likely to be seriously challenged. Old Boys has only two chances of drawing level with the leading team: either it must defeat Claudelands outright (which is quite probable) and East must suffer a first innings loss against Hamilton (rather less likely); or Old Boys must secure a first innings decision and Hamilton an outright win. The best cricket should be seen in the East-Hamilton encounter, as Hamilton’s performances have been improving with successive matches during the season. East will again rely principally on the batting of Bright, Woolley and Cassidy, but its bowling lacks variety and should not prove formidable to Hamilton. The second series of matches in the final round of the senior B cricket competition will also begin tomor- ' row. The most interesting play will probably be in the Hamilton-Cam-bridge match at Cambridge. The Draw Senior A.—Old Boys v. Claudelands, No. 1 wicket, Seddon Park; Hamilton East v. Hamilton, No. 2 wicket. Senior B.—Hamilton v. Cambridge at Cambridge; Hamilton High School v. Hakanoa, at High School; Technical v. Karapiro, at Technical; Hamilton East v. Tournaments An application from the Te Kuiti club for permission to hold a threeday tournament during Easter was refused, as it was contrary to the policy of the centre. It was remarked that the Huntly club had earlier been refused a similar application. Applications to hold one-day tournaments were granted as follows: Te Awamutu, March 15 and April 26; Ohaupo, March 22; Frankton Railway, March 22; Hamilton (for Public Service Association’s annual tourney), March 22; Frankton Railway, April 19 and May 3. Auckland club advised that the annual Hardley Shield contest would be held on Wednesday, April 2, in Auckland, the South Auckland centre being invited to send eight rinks. The invitation was accepted, and clubs desirous of being represented will be asked to nominate players by March 26. There was brief mention of the contention that there are now too many one-day full-rink competitions, but the chairman asked that discussion be deferred until the annual meeting. ROUND THE GREENS About 50 members of the Hamilton Bowling Club will take part in the annual visit to Auckland to play the Carlton Club members tomorrow, i Whitiora club proposes to hold another of its one-day full-rink tournaments tomorrow. Huntly and Matamata clubs have each secured permission to hold a full-rink tournament on Saturday, March 15. The annual tournament of the South Auckland Public Services Association is to be held on the Hamilton club's green on Saturday, March 22. Ngaruawahia club played its annual match with the Papakura and St. Heliers clubs last week-end for | the Rowe Shield. The contest took place on the Papakura greens, and Ngaruawahia proved successful. Each club had four rinks engaged, and the best aggregate was that of the southerners.

Hamilton club plays its annual inter-club match with Te Awamutu on March 22 at Te Awamutu.
