A HAPPY REUNION
VETERAN BOWLERS ANNUAL COMPETITION Bowlers from all over the Waii kato, and some from further afield, | assembled at the Whitiora club’s 1 greens yesterday for the annual competition among veterans—players at least 65 years of age. Playing conditions were good, for though the green was showing some signs of the i heavy play indulged in there of late, the weather was line and there was a feeling of fellowship permeating i the assemblage that more than made ;up for any possible deficiencies. All arrangements had been placed in capable hands far the enjoyment of players. There was considerable interest • shown as to the ages of the older players, and the honours went to J. | Wait, of Whitiora, with a tally of nearly 87 years “not out,” but he ( was closely followed by H. J. Paton, of Claudelands with nearly 86 to his credit. Others well up in the list were J. Jackson (Raglan) 84, G. Jackson (Raglan) 82, Rathbone (Ngaruawahia) 82, J. Gorman (Taupiri) 81, H. Cowley 13. CONTROL OF BOWLING SOUTH AUCKLAND CENTRE MEETING OF EXECUTIVE Perhaps the most important business before the executive meeting of the South Auckland Bowling Centre at its meeting in Hamilton yesterday was the receipt of tentative plans for the visit of a large party of bowlers and their wives from Taranaki, on the occasion of the annual exchange of visits. Advice was received that the party will comprise 36 players and eight women, and will leave New Plymouth on Monday evening next, arriving in Auckland next morning. Play will be continued. ;for the next four days on various greens in and about Auckland, and then the party goes to Thames to play on Saturday, March 15. After a trip round the Coromandel coast on the Sunday, the party will reach Te Aroha that evening. Thereafter games will be played morning and afternoon at Te Aroha, Cambridge, Hamilton and Te Awamutu, details to be arranged by the centre’s executive. Discussion arose over the location of the Centre’s Easter full-rink tournament, for which a locale in Hamilton was desired, seeing that the Cambridge club has its tourney at the same time. Various suggestions were made, but no decision was reached, except that a sub-com-mittee comprising the president (Mr S. Lewis, Cambridge) and Messrs Aldridge, Davis and Wycherley (secretary) were authorised to finalise the matter. It was suggested that teams unable to obtain inclusion in the Cambridge tourney might be invited to take part in the centre tourney.
The secretary reported that Paeroa had won the champion of champions pairs competition, and Te Aroha the rinks competition.
