OFFICIAL SILENCE

MEDICAL BENEFITS STATEMENT NEXT WEEK (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday There is complete silence in official sources on the progress of the medical service under the Social Security Act. Instructions issued throughout New Zealand yesterday warned district officers of the Health Department not to give information about the scheme for publication nor to reveal details of applications made by doctors or potential beneficiaries. The reason for this "blanket” instruction is stated to be that the statements made by the district health officers were considered in official circles to be unsatisfactory from the departmental viewpoint and the department proposes to make a statement in the near future covering the position to date. This will be released early next week and will come either from the - -f Health, the Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer. or the Director-General oj. neaiin.
