NEEDS OF ARMY
TRUCKS AND LORRIES APPEAL BY MINISTER (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Thursday The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, referred in a statement tonight to the taking of privatelyowned motor vehicles for Army purposes. “Many vehicles have been examined and selected as suitable,” said the Minister, “and in all these cases impressment warrants have been issued by the chief impressment officer, Wellington. “On the whole there has been a remarkably good response from owners, but in a number of cases vehicles have not yet been delivered to collection centres. This is causing disorganisation and is seriously interfering with the Army programme. It is essential, therefore, that owners concerned should act immediately in accordance with the impressment notice, otherwise the Government will have no alternative but to enforce the impressment regulations in order to meet the needs of the Army. I therefore ask all owners concerned to give the matter urgent attention and arrange for immediate delivery. “Where there is any doubt in connection with impressment owners should get in touch at once with the local licensing authority,” said Mr Jones. “It is pointed out to owners that where out-of-pocket expenses are * incurred in the delivery of vehicles to collection centres provision is made in the regulations for reimbursement.”
