HIGHER EXPORTS
DOMINION TRADE FIGURES FOR JANUARY DECREASE IN IMPORTS (Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Friday The return of overseas trade for January, a summary of which was issued by the Customs Department in Wellington yesterday, shows the value of commodity exports to have been £6,771,000 in New Zealand currency, or £451,000 more than in the corresponding month last year. A fall of imports, by £899,000, to £3,084,000 makes the total the lowest for any January since 1934. Following is a comparison of the returns for January in the past five years:— i
For the first seven months of the production seasoh, which opens in July, exports' were £8,333,000 higher part of the previous season. Imports in value than for the corresponding were also higher, by £2,029,000, but the greater rise in exports makes their excess, £8,668,000, very much the highest for the period in any of the past seven seasons, in several of which imports were in excess. The figures for the seven months compared with those in the four previous seasons are:—
