UNIFORMITY PROPOSED LOCAL BODY MOVE (By Telegraph.—Special to .Times) AUCKLAND, Thursday The introduction of legislation to I provide that in cities, boroughs and J town districts rating should only be on the basis of annual value, and that provision be made for local bodies to place a percentage increase of tax on j undelevoloped land situated within a | zone to be fixed by the local body j from time to time was discussed yesi terday at the conference of the ' Municipal Association of New Zeaj land. l In submitting the remit on the beI half of the executive, the president, | Mr T. Jordan, said that when a person bought cheap land on the outi skirts of a developed area and then 1 asked the local body to provide resi- | dential services, he was in effect asking other ratepayers to subsidise him. Mr Jordan suggested that areas fully serviced should be settled before the services were extended to outer districts. Delegates supported the remit, but it was decided to defer a decision to enable local bodies to consider it i fully.
