CROPS IN BRITAIN

CHILDREN’S LAND ARMY * ASSISTANCE FOR FARMERS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, March 5 The Board of Education has agreed to a plan for Britain’s schools to provide a children’s land army totalling between 600,000 and 800,000 to help farmers gather their crops. Children aged from 12 to 18 will be paid for the work. The schools will grant holidays whenever farmers need labour. This will necessitate waiving the ban against children from 12 to 14 working during the school term. Boys and girls under 16 will receive the Agricultural Board’s wage of fivepence an hour and those over 16 sixpence an hour.
