MEAT FOR EXPORT BIGGER LAMB PRODUCTION Killings for export at the Dominion’s meat freezing works during the period October I io February lo show a continued advance. The ! returns of the New Zealand Meat ! Producers Board show that killings lor export of all classes of meat to February 15 totalled 5,545,582 freight carcases (North Island 4,038,662, South Island 1,506,920), an increase over last season, to approximately the same date, of 821,137 freight carcases (South Island 484,574, North Island 336,563). The increased production of lamb has been maintained since the previous returns, killings having been as follows:—North island 3,625,218, South Island 2,253,343; total 5,878,561. The increase over last season is 865,296, to which the South island contributed 665,139, and the North Island 200,15 V. Wether mutton shows a decrease, the killings of 187,050 carcases being 257,168 fewer than in the corresponding period of last season. Ewe mutton killings, 570,997, are 100,113 carcases in excess of the previous season. Details in carcases are as iollows, last season's figures in parentheses:—North island: Wethers, 170.190 (424,557); ewes, 467,719 (432,180). South Island: Wethers, 16,860 (19,661).; ewes, 103,278 (38,704). Frozen beef production, which is confined to the North Island, lias increased by 87,702 quarters to a total this season of 147,684 quarters. Export killings of pork of all descriptions amount to 235,183 carcases, an advance of 48,158 on the previous season, the details in carcases being as follows, with the previous season’s figures in parentheses: Porkers, 25,941 (13,674); baconers, 200.956; (168,530); choppers, 8286 (4821). Killings of other classes of meat, expressed in 601 b. freight carcases, were as follows:—Boneless beef 154.407, a decrease of 58,610 compared with last season: boneless bobby veal 84,895, an increase of 22,720; sundries 192,359, an increase of 41*144 freight carcases. «
