NEW TYPE OF BREAD
ENRICHED BY VITAMINS MARKETED IN AMERICA MEET STRAIN OF WAR (United Press Assn.—-Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received March 6, 11 a.m.) CHICAGO, March 5 At a meeting of makers from all parts of the United States plans for the marketing of vitamin-enriched bread on a nation-wide scale were formulated. Mr L. J. Schumaker, of Philadelphia, the president, said an entirely new type of bread would be marketed immediately, following the completion of Government-inspired preparations in the baking, milling and allied industries. Dr. Wilder, of Rochester, said the need for early action was emphasised by the defence emergency. “There is ample reason to believe that any population receiving a diet of fully adequate vitamins, minerals and other nutritive essentials is better able to withstand the stresses and strains of war or threats of war,” he said. “Bread has been chosen because vitamins and food minerals are the natural elements of wheat. Moreover, bread is universally used.”
