ENGAGEMENT

DIMMOCK—PERCIV AL The engagement is announced between Corporal T. L. Dimmock, R.N.Z.A.F., Nelson, elder son of Mr A. C. Dimmock, Hamilton, and Wynston, elder daughter of Mr and Mrs E. F. Percival, Christchurch. THANKS FROM ENGLAND LADY GALWAY GUILD GRATITUDE OF HOMEI.ESS The donors of clothing to the Lady Galway Guild, which is at present conducting another drive, will be gratified to read the following letter of thanks and appreciation received from the Women’s Voluntary Services for Civil Defence, London, by the chairman, Lady Galway Guild, Auckland:— “ We have received a large number of cases of clothing from the Lady Galway Guild, for the homeless people of London, for which we are most grateful. The clothes will be of immense use and the people to whom they are given will greatly appreciate them. “The gifts of clothing, comforts, toys and household things which are sent to this depot are sorted, put into sizes and almost immediately they are dispatched to other Women’s Voluntary Service depots all over London, from which they are given to the people whose homes have been wrecked by bombs. The pleasure which is shown by these unfortunate people on receiving the clothes is very touching —often they have lost all they had, their home, their clothes and very often one or more of their relatives, but always they are cheerful, saying that someone else is worse off than themselves, and you never hear a grumble. There is no doubt that the air raids on London and on the other towns which have been bombed in. all parts of England, have simply made everyone more and more determined to see the war to a successful conclusion, and to make Europe and the rest of the world a happy and free place in which to live at peace again. “We are so very grateful for all the gifts which are sent to us from all over the world, and the feeling that we have so many friends thinking of us and working for us spurs us on and on to greater courage and final victory, which we hope will not be in the too far distant future now. “We should like to thank all those who have helped to send us such very generous contributions from New Zealand, and to say how deeply we appreciate_their_continued help.”
