GORDONTON FUNCTIONS
GARDEN PARTY Brilliant sunshine attended the annual garden party in aid of the Presbyterian Church funds, held on Williamson Bros.’ estate, last Saturday afternoon. Surrounded by shady trees the grounds were ideal, and the function was well patronised. All manner of competitions had been arranged, the weather making the swimming pool a great attraction. Stall-holders did a brisk trade, those in charge being: Cakes, Mesdames S. Williamson and P. Laidlaw; produce, lVlesdames S. Clements and T. Martin; sewing, Miss J, Riddell; ice cream, Misses Lucy and A. Williamson; sweets, Aiiss II! Williamson; art gallery, Aiiss June Vincent. The competitions were in tht» hands ol Alessrs R. and S. Williamson, and a willing band of workers provided luncheon and afternoon tea. Competitions were won by the following:—Air C. Henderson, Mrs Fulton, Mr V. Ballard, Mr J. Sharp, Air A. H. Clements, Airs Handysides. Airs S. Clements, IVir W. Harman, Air C. Alex ted, Airs D. Swinsbury, Air F. Clements, Air J. Sharp, Air Wallace, Mrs D. Bruce, and Mr F. Clements. On behalf of the church the Rev. Carmichael extended warm thanks to the Williamson iamily for the excellent arrangements carried out and use of the grounds. Air F. Williamson suitably replied. CONCERT AND DANCE Organised by the Drama Club to further the funds of me local hall, the concert held in tne Gordontun Hall last Thursday was highly successful. 'There was a good attendance, and an excellent programme was presented. Items were given as follows: £>ong, Mrs YV. Sexton; recitation, Miss Rewa Williamson; trio, Airs A. Hopa, Aiisses Charlotte and Jean Pene. Tne following tnree plays were enacted by members of tne Drama Club, wno gave very creditable performances: “ Safe—under tne Britisn Flag," Airs D. Sainsbury, Aiiss M. Speedy, Mrs H. Mayail, lYiiss A. Yvilliamson, Airs S. Williamson and Stuart Sainsbury; “The Valentine,’ Airs L. Drummond, Airs C. Seddon, Aiiss J. Taylor, Aiiss I. Sharp and Aiiss M. Mccean; “ Change of Heart,” Airs H. Alderwick, Airs ii. McMullen and Mrs S. Watt.
At the conclusion of the concert programme supper was served, and dancing occupied the rest of the evening, lVlesdames VV. Carswell, w. iviexteu and IVir A. Boyd supplying dance music.
