BRITISH IN GREECE
FIRST TROOPS ON MAINLAND TUMULTUOUS WELCOME ACCORDED FORCES LEADERS IN CONFERENCE SPEED AND EFFICIENCY; (Official Wireless) RUGBY, Nov. 25 The tumultuous response accorded the first British troops to land on the mainland of Greece is described in despatches to the British press from correspondents. The disembarkation of men, supplies and equipment was speedily completed. During a recent brief visit to Greece Sir Arthur Longmore, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief in the Middle East, was received by King George of Greece and conferred with General Metaxas, Prime Minister, and General Papagos, the Greek Commander. Satisfaction was expressed by Sir Arthur Longmore at the speed and efficiency with which the British units had gone into action, as well as with the successes so far achieved. . Aircraft played an important part in co-operating with the Greek land forces in the further push forward recorded in the last Greek communique.
