FIRST OF SEASON
APPRAISAL OF WOOL COMMENCEMENT ON MONDAY WEATHER DELAYS SHEARING Unfavourable weather this month has delayed shearing operations in the Waikato, and it is not expected mat the quantity of wool forward for appraisal at Auckland Monday, when the first appraisal of the season will commence, will be very large. The catalogue will be made up mainly of wool from dry sheep and hoggets. The appraisal will extend over some days, and it is not yet too late to forward bales. Even if wool arrives late it will be handled immediately and appraised until the requisite quantity is obtained. Only a comparatively small number of Waikato bales has been despatched, but more are expected to arrive at the Parnell stores during the next two or three days. Growers have done their best to forward as much wool as possible, as they realise that the more wool available for this early appraisal the less strain will be placed on shipping facilities later on. The United Kingdom has asked the Dominion to ship wool as early as possible, and consequently growers have been asked to speed up shearing operations.
When the doctor looked in to replenish his capacious pouch he remarked in that half-humorous way of his, “ my colleagues are always—and of course most properly—stressing the importance of pure food and pure water, but do you know, I think pure tobacco is almost as important as pure anything else.” “ That’s right, sir,” agreed the tobacconist, “ but of course we can’t guarantee the purity of all the brands we have to stock.”
“ Quite so,” smiled the doctor, “ so let’s have my usual two ounces of Navy Cut No. 3, I know that’s pure; been smoking it for years, and I suppose that like all the genuine toasted brands it’s as guiltless of nicotine—therefore as harmless—as it can be.
‘ Toasted ’ certainly has a delightful bouquet.” “ I know,” said the tobacconist, “ I’m selling a lot of all five toasted blends, Cut Plug No. 10 (Bullshead), Navy Cut No. 3 (Bulldog), Cavendish, Riverhead Gold and Desert Gold. “ Glad to hear it! ” said the doctor, “ it merits its popularity. Trust the public to know a really good thing! ”
