Mrs E. F. Peacocke. “Weston Lea.’ Hamilton, and her daughter, Mrs R. Bull, Napier, have returned from a visit to Auckland. Mrs R. J. Gillies, Wellington, is visiting her daughter-in-law, Mrs Desmond Gillies, Hamilton Mrs N. D’Arcy Smith, Hamilton, returns tomorrow from a holiday in Rotorua. Mrs lan Johnston has returned to Hamilton after six weeks spent in Wellington. Mrs P. R. Newland, Hamilton, has returned from a short visit to Auckland. Among recent hostesses fa rewelling Mrs J. W. Connell, who is leaving Hamilton next nonth to reside in New Plymouth, were Mrs V. L. Kerr, Mrs G. Salv/ay, Mrs J. Jones and Mrs F. Jb. Fisher. Mrs V. Leathart. president of the Hamilton branch of the Health and Beauty Movement, and Mrs A. Gibbs, vice-president, leave on Monday for Auckland, where they will receive tuition from Miss Millicent Ward, founder of the movement in New Zealand, to equip them as demonstrators to the Hamilton branch. Miss Ward will visit the branch once a month. Mrs M. R. Spargo, New Plymouth, Miss P. M. Brown, Dunedin, and Miss P. Compton, Wellington, are visiting Hamilton and are guests at the Midland Hotel. Mrs J. Wainwright, “Moorfield," Matangi, accompanied by her daughter, Mrs G. D. Narbey, is spending a holiday at Helensville. Mrs M. Mclntyre, who has been on a visit to Gisborne, has returned to Hamilton. Mrs E. Brain, who has been visiting her daughter, Mrs M. Belich, Auckland, has returned home. The highly satisfactory sum of £ls 10s was raised on Thursday by the St. John Ambulance for patriotic funds, when a “bring and buy” stall was set up outside the patriotic house in Garden Place, where a brisk trade was carried on throughout the day.
A pleasant social afternoon was spent recently by the Frankton Methodist Guild, when the programme was supplied by the Singing Circle of the League of Mothers. Songs were contributed by Mrs Fitzwilliam and Mrs Clark, recitations by Mrs Dixon and the Circle was heard in several numbers. Accompaniments were played by Mrs C. Clark. After a musical competition afternoon tea concluded the afternoon’s entertainment. A workstall of goods, etc., added to the guild’s funds.
A concert party arranged by Mrs A. McLachlan through the Women s Patriotic Committee was taken to Claudelands Territorial camp on Wednesday night, when items were much enjoyed. Those contributing to the programme were as follows: Instrumental, Mrs A. McLachlan and Misses Yvonne and Jean ivicLachlan, and Mr Donald Lawer songs, Miss Jean Owns. MI JL s Yvonne McLachlan, and Mr li. Wood; elocution, Miss Reta Anderson; dancing, Miss Jean McLachlan, illuminated drum sticks, Mr G. Moss. The party was afterwards enter tained to supper in the officers mess.
