SUCCESSFUL FUNCTION

ORGANISED BY LEAGUE LARGE NUMBER PRESENT The Regent Ballroom was the centre of gravity for all those seeking a happy evening last night, when the League of Wives of Exservicemen and Wives and Mothers of 2nd N.Z.E.F., organised a successful ball to augment the funds of the Soldiers’ Club in Grantham Street, which has proved of greht benefit to the soldiers during the week-ends. Festoons of pennants fluttered over the heads of the happy crowd of dancers, and a large Union Jack held pride of place on the stage, which was artistically banked with flowers. The supper room was arranged with small tables, charmingly decorated with vases of Iceland poppies set in cellophane flowers. The guests were received by Mrs D. I. Gate (president of the league), wearing a irock of black tulip taffeta, Mrs V. Crowhurst (vice-pre-sident), in a black ripple georgette gown, and Mrs W. McCready (vicepresident) in a frock of Margaret Rose georgette. 'The committee responsible for the efficient organisation of the dance and the preparation and serving of the delicious supper were as follows: Mesdames P. Henry (secretary) cyclamen marquisette; S. W. Tallis, black velvet; F. G. Watson, black taffeta banded in white; J. Vokes, black crepe suie and white coatee; J. blank silk shper and lace: W. MacDonald, midnight blue lace; J. Exvey, uiacK crinKie crepe ana black velvet coatee; J. Renolff, black craquelle and floral coatee; T. G. Scott, tobacco brown patterned crepe many ns; J. uampoen, tango ngun_a satin; H. A. McLeod, black lace; L. J. Gurnell, midnight blue cotelle; F. R. Roderick, biacK crepe soie; W. Philpott, brown crepe suede; W. Innes, black lace; W. Magnall, L. Webster. A. Rowe (Whatawhata), Ramsay. The duties of masters of ceremonies were efficiently carried out by Messrs S. W. Tallis and L. J. Gurnell.
