TRIALS FOR ROTORUA GAS ACRE SHAPES WELL GENERAL RISKE HITS OUT (By “Martian”) The going on the course proper. 48ft. out from the rails, was in good order for galloping at Te Rapa this morning and some interesting work was accomplished by horses engaged at the Rotorua Hunt fixture on Saturday. The best efforts of the morning were those of Runanga, Foxsen. Acreman. Ngawiri, Gas Acre, and General Riske. The three-year-old Hunting Song filly. Royal Melody, ran two furlongs along the back in 25 3-ss. Gay Widow (Fenton), one of J. F. Tutchen’s string, ran home from the three furlong peg in 395. Well Away and Brandon Hall traversed a round in 2.10, both hitting out freely over the concluding stages. Runanga (Taylor) shaped well over five furlongs in 1.7 1-5. Runanga is on the upgrade and may soon be seen to advantage. Innes Lad ran the last six of seven furlongs in 1.25. G. Goulsbro’s charge was unlucky to be beaten in the Manakau Hurdles at Ellerslie and should soon make amends. Etcetera Hits Out Etcetera (Ensor) finished clear ot Calshot (Craddock) over a round in 2.8 4-5. Son of the Soil (Day) and Forest Acre (Gollop) Were associated ovet seven furlongs, being timed to run their final six in 1.21 4-5. Foxsen and Acreman hit out over five furlongs in 1.7 1-5, a useful effort.
Ngawiri (Ensor) hit out attractively over half a-mile in 545. She is in good order for pending engagements.
Marie’s Choice (Craddock) traversed six furlongs in 1.27 1-5. Gay Leslie (Fenton) and Evan’s Head (Mclnally) were companions over five furlongs, which they ran in 1.8 1-5. Gas Acre (Ensor) finished on to be on terms with Vaals Mac (McInaPy) at the completion of five furlongs in 1.7. Gas Acre impressed and will need only to race up to his track promise to possess prospects at Rotorua. Raceline (Meynell) worked round to the three furlong peg and came home from there in 38 l-ss. He looks in good heart for pending engagements. General Riske Hits Out General Riske (Long), after standing Sporting Ace (Jones) up fully ten lengths in the middle stages, finished solidly to be on terms with the latter over the concluding stages of five furlongs in 1.7. General Riske impressed. The best effort of the morning over five furlongs was that of Bronze Step (Mclnally), who was shading the maiden Kallatopea (Howard) in 1.6 4-5, a pleasing effort. Racecamp (Jones) accounted for Cappy (Hain), with Gael (Howard) some lengths away at the end of seven furlongs in 1.33 J, the last six furlongs occupying 1.20£. Racecamp shaped well while Cappy, too, indicated that he is on the upgrade again.
Among those to work at strong pace were Gold Spot, Olympus and Laughing Fox. Sweet Nothing (Day) was schooled over two hurdles along the back and shaped satisfactorily.
